Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG: A Gentle-Looking 518bhp Beast

For those who like muscle without flaunting it, the new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG just might be the understated monster you need to satisfy that hunger.  Looking like a regular four-door sedan, you can easily drive into a crowd of Prius-toting treehuggers and scathe by unnoticed (except by the most staunchly vigilant, of course).  Unbeknownst to the unsuspecting onlookers, your modest-looking vehicle actually packs a scary 518bhp – enough to make your friendly “green” neighbors hate you for a week.

That means speed and plenty of it.  Running on a revised version of the previous-gen E63’s 6.2-liter V8 engine (with 465 lb-ft of torque), the car can hit 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds, with top speeds electronically limited to 155 mph.

Transmission has been bumped up from the old model, too.  The E63 now uses the quicker ‘Speedshift’ seven-speed box, the same one used in the SL63, allowing it better road efficiency.  Gas mileage now sees an improved 22.4 mpg (city and highway combined), up by 12 percent from the previous year’s performer.

Other features of the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG include a wider track, new control arms, quad tailpipes and eighteen inch alloy wheels.  It’s slated for a September release in Europe at prices just a shade under $100,000.
