We’re big fans of Bluetooth trackers for monitoring various objects’ locations. Problem is, those thing lose their effectiveness once an item goes past Bluetooth’s effective range – a common problem with wayward pets, lost luggage, and stolen valuables. For those situations, the Ping GPS Locator should offer a better alternative.

A more sophisticated tracking tool, the device combines Bluetooth with both GPS and a 3G cellular connection, allowing it to track everything both near and far. Whether at home, at the office, or halfway around the world, this thing will let you keep tabs on the exact location of absolutely any object.

Unlike other GPS-based trackers, the Ping GPS Locator measures a compact 34 x 34 x 12 mm and weighs just a single ounce, making them suitable for attaching onto even smaller objects. To help conserve power, the system uses Bluetooth to locate devices if it’s within a 35-foot range before switching to a cellular connection for items within 75 feet and GPS for even more distant objects. If it can’t locate the item using satellite, it switches to cellular triangulation, instead, ensuring you always have a fighting chance of finding whatever you’re locating.

Features include a check-in button that immediately sends a device’s location to your phone with a single push, LED indicator rings, and a 350mAh battery rated at three months between charges. It’s durable, too, with a thick rubber top, a hard plastic bottom, and waterproof construction up to 10 meters.

An Indiegogo campaign is currently running for the Ping GPS Locator. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at $99.
