Pins Collective’s Button Pins Let You Wear Your Favorite GIFs Everywhere

Button pins with graphic prints haven’t exactly been in high demand since the 80s. Sure, they’re still around, but you won’t see people wearing them just for the heck of it. Pins Collective, however, thinks it could change that with their Digital Pin that displays any GIF of your choosing.

That’s right, your favorite animated image can now live out its existence on a button pin attached to your vest, jacket, or backpack, allowing you to accessorize your everyday outfits in entirely new ways. And by new ways, we mean your favorite GIFs of goofy cats, out-of-context movie scenes, and whatever other animated foolishness you spend your day laughing at online.

The Pins Collective Digital Pin comes with a 1.34-inch round display out front, showing whichever GIF you chose to display there over and over. It comes with backlighting to ensure it stays visible even in the dark, with a slightly reflective top glass that makes the image look sharper in direct sunlight. An accompanying app (iOS and Android) lets you create or upload any GIF, with an existing library so you can have something playing on the button as soon as you get it. Features include a battery rated at 2.5 hours of playback for animated images and 74 hours for stills, a capacitive touch button on the side for pairing with devices, and, of course, a small needle in the back for pinning to your bags and clothes.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Pins Collective Digital Pin. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at $59.

This is one of those inventions that we really don’t need but at the same time we just… want. I can’t help it. The amount of time I spend online is beyond ridiculous and I’m just going to pretend I spend that time doing something productive, alright? Anyway lol. I don’t see too many people wearing pins anymore and I think this invention may just change that. I love that the gifs are animated and they’re so easy to change so you can swap ’em out depending on your mood. Fantastic!

My family has always been into pins. I have been decorating my bags with them for as long as I can remember. I never thought I’d even consider spending this much money for a pin but that’s probably going to change real soon. While I’ll always keep the pins I’ve purchased over the years, they aren’t able to be anything other than what they are. I am so excited to have pins that I can change whenever I please. I’m an artist at heart and am inspired by everyday objects and scenes. This is going to help inspire me to get in the mood for whatever project I’m working on at the time. Thank you to whoever brought this dream to life!

This is one of those stupid ideas in which I like the product but wonder if I am the only one. The KickStarter campaign raised over $100,000, so I am definitely not alone in like this button gadget. Although I like it, I definitely wont be buying one.

What would be fun is to give someone your pin as a gift and then change the image while they are wearing it. So instead of a smiley face you could change it to “I Suck!”

The pin is a cute idea, but it wont change the world we live in. I am glad that the pin can repel water from wearing it regularly, but it isn’t fully waterproof. If the pin slides out and the badge drops in the toilet then you will probably destroy it.

There are too many tech items I am excited for, so although I like this pin with the customizable gifs, I would rather use the money to add towards my Virtual Reality gaming gear.
