Chairpadbag Adds A Folding Chair Cover On A Bag
Hate uncomfortable chairs? So do we. So why are schoolkids confined to those cumbersome seating furniture again? The Chairpadbag offers a solution, equipping a school bag with chair padding that kids can sling over the backrest and seat to render even the hardest surfaces snug.
Created by Concentrate, the contraption pairs a functional school bag with a special padded flap that can be pulled out after hooking the bag to the backrest. That way, you’ve got cushy surfaces to rest your body onto, all while keeping your stuff within easy reach. Assuming you’re a kid, of course. Not that it’s a bad idea to use one to make sitting through PTA meetings or using the plastic chairs at the fastfood joint more bearable.
The Chairpadbag measures 11.8 x 13.8 inches, with a two-fold flap, sized to cover the seat and backrest on standard school chairs. Zippered bag container is expandable to allow [...]
Bene Coffice Combines Creature Comforts With Professional Function
Office chairs with an integrated armchair desk make perfect sense. Especially when you’re looking to equip a room with temporary workspaces. The Bene Coffice does it one better, piling on smart styling that makes you look good while slaving over a spreadsheet (or pretending to while playing Farmville, whichever the case may be).
According to creator Bene, the furniture represents “a fusion of the office with a café.” Combining the comforts of a sofa lounger with the function of a desk chair, it should make an ideal fixture for lounges, airport terminals and other places where folks waiting for an appointment or a flight can pull out their laptops to get some work done.
The Bene Coffice features a contemporary design, complete with a cushy seat, low backrest, and steel frame and legs. It has one wide armrest that can double as a functional work desk with enough [...]
Convertible Coffee Table Turns Into Work Desk
Don’t have space for a home office? Not a problem with the Convertible Coffee Table, which extends into a functional work desk so you can turn the living room into a makeshift office without having to hunch your back.
Designed for folks who get an inkling to work a computer while watching Oprah, the coffee table’s surface can be lifted to standard desk height. While it looks a little uncomfortable from the picture (I blame the angle), the sales page says it’s been sized to provide a properly-positioned work desk while sitting at the sofa. That way, you don’t have to keep your quick-heating notebook on your lap, burning holes through your jeans (not to mention, whatever lies under there).
The Convertible Coffee Table looks like a regular living room furniture at first glance, with a birch veneer construction, walnut brown finish and 20 x 38 x 24 inch [...]
Coney Island Line Of Furniture Uses Wood From Demolished Boardwalk
Coney Island may no longer be the center of amusement attractions it once was. Regardless, it holds a special place in many of New Yorker’s hearts (including myself) and furniture company Uhuru is paying tribute by unveiling their Coney Island Line, a series of limited edition pieces inspired by the historic Brooklyn spot.
More than adopting the former resort as basis for the design of the pieces, the company decided to use actual Ipe wood that’s been reclaimed from the area’s demolished boardwalk. Yep, the exact same floors first installed in the late 1940s and served countless guests for over 70 years.
The Coney Island Line consists of six furniture items that interpret the architecture of the area, namely:
Cyclone Lounger. Inspired by the Cyclone rollercoaster, it boasts a form that actually looks like it was taken from one of the oldest wooden coasters still in operation. The base [...]
Eat Now, Poker Later: The Convertible Dining And Game Table
Dining table come mealtime, poker table when the boys come over. While that slab of wood on your kitchen probably does the same, it doesn’t exactly do it with the same flair as the Convertible Dining And Game Table, a luxury-drenched dual-function furniture that flips from an enamel top to a felt-covered playing area.
It starts out life as a modern fixture for your dining room, complete with mood-lighting for those extra special dinners. Once the family have finished their supper, simply push a button to rotate the bottom side, which features a competition-style poker table, complete with soft felt covering the surface.
Created by designer Lee J. Rowland, the Convertible Dining And Game Table is made from vitreous enamel, a material that behaves just like ceramics and is very difficult to wear out. The slim outer frame, which is held up by the legs, remains in place. [...]
Champ Sofa Transforms From Couch To Punching Bag
Remember that awesome Table Tennis Door? The man responsible for it, German designer Tobias Fraenzel, is back to his old, clever ways with a new out-of-the-mold creation. Called the Champ Sofa, it’s a comfy couch with a backrest that swivels into a punching bag for releasing all your pent-up aggression on.
Every time I watch the UFC on pay-per-view with my buddies, someone (usually a friend of a friend) eventually gets up and begins making fighting motions. I blame the beer, but men beating up on each other round after round does tend to have that effect on people. Sure, it looks stupid, but we always egg the drunks on cause it makes for fun interludes, especially when watching boring wrestlers who hump each other for 15 minutes.
Well, the Champ Sofa should encourage even more of that behavior, because of its clever side-function. While it plays [...]
This Ottoman Turns Into A Bed
Need a place to sleep? Here, take the foot stool. What do you mean you can’t catch a wink on a foot stool? You can most definitely hibernate till the summer on the Converting Bed Ottoman Frame, a clever living room furniture that can plays foot rest by day and comfy bed at night.
Able to go from ottoman to bed in a jiffy, it gets you an instant bunk that guests can use to spend the night. Of course, they’ll be laying their heads down where you’ve had your stinking feet all year long, but they don’t have to know the details. It transforms from a stool to a perfectly usable spare cot – that’s all the awesome they need to hear.
The Converting Bed Ottoman Frame measures a mere 19 1/4 x 25 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches when folded up. Once you need [...]
Stylish d. Selection Bookshelves And Sideboards Are Made Of Cardboard
Tired of the same lame bookshelves lining your study’s walls? Put a little eco-friendly class to your room with the d. Selection Cardboard Furniture from Richard Dienes, which currently includes very stylish modern bookshelves and sideboards, clad in striking colors.
Personally, we couldn’t care less what it’s made of. It can be horrifically made from animal bones and it will still look amazing, as it houses my collection of history books and law journals. Okay, I’m just kidding. About the heady books, not the animal bones.
The d. Selection currently consists of two main pieces, the Cardboard Bookshelf Dickens and the Cardboard Sideboard Georgia. The former is a vertically-oriented fixture with four rows of shelves and 13.8 x 47.2 x 23.6 inch dimensions (d x w x h), while the latter is a single row shelf with three compartments and 13.8 x 47.2 x 23.6 inch dimensions. [...]
KegStool Makes A Comfy Bar Stool Out Of Empty Beer Kegs
When we finish a keg after having a house party, we return them to the folks who sell us the beer. Now, we just might have a good reason to actually steal it: the Keg Stool.
Yes, it’s a functional bar stool made out of empty kegs and a few choice parts. You can buy it as a whole piece or just buy the kit, which supplies you with all the necessary hardware (except the actual keg) to build your own. Sorry, Mr. Whitty, we are definitely stealing those beer barrels now. Say your goodbyes the next time you deliver.
While awesome, the KegStool is actually a bit sad. Converting the keg into a bar stool actually renders it unusable as an actual vessel of beer, which is just a terrible way to spend the remainder of its life. Yes, I’m crying. Sniff.
The Keg Stool Kit can attach to all 15.5 gallon [...]
A Coffee Table With Dining Aspirations: The Basic Table
Too many guests coming for supper? Time to put the Basic Table to work. Don’t worry, we didn’t ask a programmer from 1979 to design our home fixtures – it’s just the name of this awesomely-designed, short-legged coffee table that can shift shape to a full-size dining area.
A sly dinner table in disguise, there’s absolutely nothing to clue anyone in that there’s more than a simple coffee table lying in your living room. It’s one part awesome and one part disgusting. The latter, by the way, is because you’ll be eating right where I put up my feet after I take off my shoes every night. Don’t worry – I use foot powder by the pound. I smell “almost” fresh.
The Basic Table comes in square and rectangular versions. Square model measures 90 x 90 x 41 cm (L x W x H) in coffee table mode, expanding to 180 x [...]
Babies Get Their Own Transforming Furniture With The 1,2,3 Soleil
Them little ones, they grow up so fast, don’t they? Before you know it, you’re trying to find a way to get rid of their old cradle. Not very long after, you’re calling up friends to unload the crib. The 1,2,3 Soleil puts an end to wasting perfectly good baby furniture, turning out a convertible three-in-one that can work as a baby bed, a crib and a play table.
Created by Castor & Chouca, the piece literally stays with your child as he grows up. It starts out life as a baby bassinet, with a clear plexiglass top and detachable, auto-locking casters. Later, you can remove the tiny bed, replace it with a larger one sitting near the bottom and turn it into a crib. Come the time that your child needs his own bed, you can graduate the crib into a junior desk. Once he’s outgrown that too, you can [...]
Piece Your Own Furniture Together With The Jigsaw Puzzle Stool/Table
Want to turn your living room into a conundrum of tiles? Throw enough of these Jigsaw Puzzle Stool/Table pieces out there and you’ll be in business.
On its own, one of these things would make for an odd-looking but functional stool, where you can put your legs up, plop your ass down or stand on top of while cleaning the ceiling with a broom (while wearing your French Maid outfit, of course). Slap a few of them together, though, and you’ll turn up a unique-looking coffee table that you can configure to whatever size or shape you wish.
The Jigsaw Puzzle Stool/Table sports a basic stool framework for the legs and a precision die cut jigsaw tile on top. Made out of sheesham hardwood, each individual piece measures 14 x 22 x 17 inches (W x L x H). The tabletops are designed to slot right into other tabletops of the same [...]
Wiege On Chair Lets You Burn More Calories While Working, Playing, Sleeping At Work
The life of the Office Drone isn’t the healthiest around. Sitting in a comfy chair all day, you’re practically motionless, with only your hands moving majority of the time. The On Chair looks to change that, allowing you a full range of bodily movements even while sitting. That way, you’ll be burning calories while clocking in at work – all without ever seeing the insides of a gym.
Created by Wiege, it’s intentionally styled like a regular office chair at first glance. Unlike them, however, it allows you to move body parts while your ass remains glued to the seat. Fidget all you want – it self-balances so you never fall over.
The On Chair comes with a range of joints that allow the seat to tilt forwards, backwards and side-to-side. That way, you can change sitting stances constantly, allowing you to burn just a few extra calories while typing a spreadsheet [...]
The Daily Shelter Hides A Secret Fort Within An Ordinary-Looking Table
Like to play fort, but don’t want visitors making fun of you for it? Not a problem with the Daily Shelter, an ordinary-looking table that craftily hides an elusive, secret fort.
Created by artist Ingrid Brandth, it seems like a perfectly normal dining table at first glance. Slide under it, however, and you’ll get access to a bevy of sliding and pop-up mechanisms that turn it into a veritable fort. Yes, a completely private space where you can live in your own little world. Your very cramped, own little world.
The Daily Shelter looks comfortable enough to fit a regular-sized kid. Nerdy adults like you can probably fit in too, although comfort should fall far from your list of priorities. With something that looks this good, you’ll probably end up battling with your kids and your dogs for use of the facilities, though, so be warned.
Currently a design concept, the piece appears [...]
The Transformers Home Edition: Roland Landsberg’s Boxetti Collection
The Boxetti Collection is like the Transformers of home furnishings. In stealth mode, they look like a bunch of fancy-looking boxes. Once you slide some compartments, pull out others and take out a few parts, however, they turn into functional home systems.
Dreamed up by designer Roland Landsberg, the collection is a showcase of minimalism – what else could be simpler than your entire house decked out in compact, solid blocks? When you need to use each piece, simply roll out the modules like flipping blades off a Swiss Knife. Easy peasy.
Easily the most awesome of the pieces is the Boxetti Thrill, a decked-out home entertainment system. Compacted, it looks nothing more than an innocent closet (or a wild-looking fridge). One punch on the remote, however, and the sliding door opens to reveal a woofer, a 7.1 channel receiver and a BD player. Oh wait, it’s not yet done – there [...]
Do Hit Chair: Furniture You Can Smash Into Shape
Customizable chairs are awesome. When the customization involves picking up a sledgehammer and smashing the furniture into your desired shape, it enters the realm of genius. Not that the Do Hit Chair looks like anything I’d want to wish on my living room, but the thing looks hella fun.
Half-home fixture and half-concept art, the “furniture” is actually just a large stainless steel box that measures 40 x 28 x 30 inches. It’s only 1.24mm thick, though, so you can pound it hard from all sides to turn it into an unrecognizable mass of deformed crap. That resulting heap of junk is what you’re supposed to use as a chair.
The Do Hit Chair comes with its own long-handled, wide-headed sledgehammer that you can use to mold it into your desired shape. That is, if your desired shape for a seating equipment looks like it just came from the heap at the [...]
