Marubot Football League Puts Real Robots Into Arcade Cabinets, Pits Them Against Each Other

Marubot Football League Puts Real Robots Into Arcade Cabinets, Pits Them Against Each Other

Video games are fun.  Having physical robots crush each other’s head, however, is way more entertaining.  While the Marubot Football League isn’t exactly Robot Wars, having four mobile mini-androids tossing balls and making goals across a playing table sounds just as enticing.
Is it more fun than foosball?  Given that you control inanimate men on a stick on one versus moving robots with actual faces on the other, there’s no contest.  That’s right, your robot will have a face – one that beams when it scores, feigns sadness when it loses a goal and gets really angry during a tied game.

The first arcade game of its kind, the Marubot uses a large gaming cabinet about the size of an Air Hockey table.  Four sets of controls (two joysticks and a turbo button) are installed around the sides, along with time and score displays. Up to four players can get on the [...]

Helium-Filled SkyBall Bounces Up To 75 Feet, Clears Football Field In One Throw

Helium-Filled SkyBall Bounces Up To 75 Feet, Clears Football Field In One Throw

Want to play ball like a superhero?  Now, you can.  The new SkyBall lets you play Catch and other backyard games like only men with super strength can manage, hurling through the air like it came right out of Superman’s hands.
Thrown by a sufficiently strong individual, the SkyBall can travel the length of an entire football field in one heave.  Now, just imagine how much farther it can go when struck by a baseball bat or a golf club – way cool.  Even better, it can bounce off the ground at insane heights, easily clearing forty feet for most folks of average strength.  Under ideal conditions, the manufacturer claims it can easily take heights of up to 75 feet.
How does it bounce so high?  The SkyBall is filled with compressed air and helium, accounting for the ridiculous springiness (yes, it’s a real word – I checked).  It’s got a four [...]

F1Showcar Motion Simulator Lets You Virtual Drive A Real Formula Car

F1Showcar Motion Simulator Lets You Virtual Drive A Real Formula Car

Time to face reality – you just don’t have what it takes to ever drive an F1 car. Hell, you can’t even parallel park without a near-accident. Still, who’s to say you’ll never be that good?  With the F1Showcar Motion Simulator, you’ll get a chance to prove your mettle.
Like other video game racing simulators, the F1Showcar involves a stationary car, a mechanized platform, some driving controls, software and a large display. In this case, they’re using a full-size Formula One replica, complete with fiberglass composite bodywork, custom paint scheme and graphics. It rocks authentic F1 tires, racing bucket seats, steering wheel and pedal system, to bring you as close as possible to the illusion of running laps with the best drivers in the world.
The system is built on a pneumatically-powered motion platform for life-like vehicle motions and requires drivers to be relatively average in size [...]

Band Hero For The DS Lite Comes With Guitar Grip, Drum Grip And Scary Karaoke Controls

Band Hero For The DS Lite Comes With Guitar Grip, Drum Grip And Scary Karaoke Controls

Folks playing with a Nintendo DS Lite are just about to look a whole lot stranger later this year.  That’s because Activision is releasing Band Hero, a Rock Band/Guitar Hero-type game designed especially for the handheld platform.
The title will have three main instrument modes – guitar, drums and vocals.  Intended to mimic the same gameplay experience fans can get from their home console variants, Band Hero comes with its own dedicated peripherals.  Set includes a four-button Guitar Grip and a four-pad Drum Grip, each of which can be worn over the DS like a jacket.

Karaoke-haters should prepare for the worst, as the vocal mode will literally have the players singing into their portable devices.  Can you imagine being stuck in the subway with five folks all playing the damn thing?    It’s like a karaoke session everywhere you turn (Avril Lavigne on the left, KT Turnstall on the right and some [...]

Pocket Retro Game Emulator

Pocket Retro Game Emulator

You know you are showing your age when you spend Christmas day trying to explain to the young ones in your family that really there was once a portable console that wasn’t in perfect color. Explaining the concept of a little black pixelated looking Mario running around on a green screen does little more than confuse the generation that is growing up in the DS and PSP portable gaming era. And you show your age even more when you begin to fight the corner of the original NES! You know what I mean. Someone starts going on about the new Wii version of Mario and you find yourself sitting there telling them all how nothing will ever beat the NES Mario Land. Would you like a pipe and slippers to go with that opinion?
Here is a video of retro pocket gamer in action. (Buy Link is at the bottom of [...]
