Kymera Magic Wand: Remote Control For Wizards
Ever wanted to put on your wizard costume before watching TV? Never? Well, now you’ll want to with the Kymera Magic Wand, a functional universal remote clad in the form of a spell-conjuring stick.
Created by Chris Barnardo, the Magic Wand lets you control a bevy of home electronics (including various handheld devices, like iPods) using a variety of stick movements. Simply point it to any component in your A/V system (it’s supposed to work with the majority of IR-equipped devices, even bedside lamps), perform the specific gestures and have the thing do as instructed – with nary a single button in sight.
Dressed as a stylish 14-inch stick (it would have been all the rage with the hip wizards from yesteryears) with a green LED on one end and a built-in accelerometer inside, the Kymera should manage everything that a standard universal remote can do. From changing channels to increasing the [...]
Bagel-Shaped Loop Pointer Controls Your TV Like A Wiimote
Souped-up remote controls and wireless mouse peripherals be forewarned. The bagel-shaped Loop pointer is out to take your place in HTPCs the world over and making fun of itself while doing it (check out the official site for a few more funny pictures like above).
First unveiled to a positive media response back in January of 2007, it only took Hillcrest Labs two and a half years (yep, I’m being sarcastic) to bring their “air mouse” device to the market. Surprisingly, it debuts with nary a competition in the same odd-shape category, although it’s bound to go head-to-head with other 3D mouse devices.
What it does, in a nutshell, is act as a more convenient accessory for controlling the on-screen pointer (along with other mouse-controlled actions) on PC-based home theater systems, allowing you to go through menus and options by merely flicking your wrist while holding it in your hand (it does [...]
PD-100 Black Hornet: Minuscule Spy Choppers
Small palm-sized choppers usually look like fun toys. This one, however, is designed for soldiers and military applications, instead of your usual afternoon in the park. Called the PD-100 Black Hornet, it’s a nanocopter that comes equipped with the latest in spy surveillance technology.
Developed by Prox Dynamics, the minuscule aircraft can hover, accelerate and decelerate much like a real helicopter using what the company describes as the “smallest and lightest control servos in the world”. Paired with a capable image capture device, it can take aerial close-ups of some of the most difficult installations to provide situational awareness.
It weighs a light 0.5 grams and comes at a way smaller size than any RC helicopter available in the market. Using 4-inch rotor blades powered by an electric motor, the Black Hornet can travel at speeds of up to 20mph both indoors and outdoors on light winds. Slower travel might be [...]
