Brando’s 12-Surface IQ Pentagon Claims Magic, Giant And A Few More Exaggerated Adjectives

Brando’s 12-Surface IQ Pentagon Claims Magic, Giant And A Few More Exaggerated Adjectives

We get it.  You’re smart.  No need to solve Rubik’s Cube for the 6,000th time to prove it.  I’d like to see you exercise that brain on Brando’s latest toy, however.  Called the….wait for it…. Magic GIANT 12-Surface IQ Pentagon – Fantastic Edition, it’s a lot of name for a lot of puzzle.
As the name suggests, the creation takes Rubik’s Cube and makes it ridiculously more complex.  Instead of six sides, you now get twelve different surfaces that require even more intricate maneuvering to properly solve.  Personally, I can’t understand how it’s supposed to work.  In fact, reading Brando’s wonderful website is likely to just leave you more confused.
Dimensions are approximately 10 x 10 x 10 cm, so it’s not as much of a GIANT as its name implies.  Effort required should be humongous, though.  Look at that thing – can anyone even really solve that without going through seven [...]

Bram’s Cube Adds Gears To Rubik’s Cube, Makes It More Complicated

Bram’s Cube Adds Gears To Rubik’s Cube, Makes It More Complicated

I never had the patience to solve Rubik’s Cube.  I’m just not the kind of guy to spend an entire day figuring that stuff out with my little brain (or what’s left of it, after the alcohol abuse).  That’s why I’m never even going to try with the Bram’s Cube, which adds another layer of difficulty to the mix.
Created by Bram Cohen, the man behind BitTorrent, the new handheld puzzle adds gears (similarly stickered up with color) for an extra layer of difficulty.  Not only will you need to solve the cube, you’ll need to shift the gears into the correct place too, giving the game an entirely new dimension.
While it looks like a Rubik’s Cube at first glance, it’s actually not.  It’s not even a 3 x 3 x 3 puzzle, like the classic.  Instead, it’s a 2 x 2 x 2 cube with eight gears thrown into the [...]

Rubik’s 360 Ready To Baffle Puzzle Lovers Starting Next Week

Rubik’s 360 Ready To Baffle Puzzle Lovers Starting Next Week

Tired of solving Rubik’s Cube over and over? Prepare yourself for a new challenge as the iconic puzzle gets a modern follow-up 35 years after it was first invented. Called the Rubik’s 360, it’s debuting in UK stores next week
Ditching the cubic form previously used in Hungarian professor Erno Rubik’s first two puzzles (Rubik’s Cube and Rubik’s Revenge), the 360 uses a transparent spherical design with six tiny domes on the shell. Inside the sphere are two smaller clear containers of a similar shape, with six colored balls right at the center.
The objective is to spin the 360 to get all six balls out from the smaller spheres and guide them to their corresponding outer domes. The player will then twist the two black dials on either end of the puzzle to trap them in place. As with most puzzle games, of course, the [...]

Cube Clock Is A Rubik’s Cube That Doesn’t Puzzle

Cube Clock Is A Rubik’s Cube That Doesn’t Puzzle

Alarm clocks, being excessively simple devices, have been a favorite canvas for designers to play around with.  The Cube Clock isn’t an especially complicated contraption, although the result is a really cool fixture that should nicely adorn your bedside table.
One glance at the Cube Clock and the inspiration is obvious – it’s a Rubik’s Cube timepiece.  Fun and colorful, it displays time, date, alarm and temperature on a small digital screen situated in one of the middle strips.  To give it that twisting and turning Rubik’s Cube feel, the top layer can be rotated, with the display changing depending on which side (time, date, alarm or temperature) is on the front face.  It’s more complicated than just pushing a button, but that’s a small price to pay for a clock with a bit more flair.
Right below the display, the colorful tiles have been turned to three simple control buttons (Set, [...]
