Soon, You Can Customize Adidas Sneakers With Your Instagram Photos

Adidas is releasing an upcoming service that will let you wrap a new pair of sneakers in an Instagram print. Yes, those colorfully-filtered photos of your cats, lunch time meals, and sexy selfies can now adorn your feet. What could go wrong?

This isn’t the first time a company allowed customizations on their sneakers. Heck, it’s not even the first one with an Instagram tie-in (Nike does it with PhotoID). However, this is going to be the first instance that a company will allow users to map a full Instagram photo all over their kicks, opening the way for a whole load of design possibilities. Not all of them good.

Sadly, you won’t be able to do the Instagram customization on every model on Adidas’ inventory. In fact, you’ll only be able to do it on one: the Adidas ZX Flux, which has a one-piece upper, making it an ideal canvas for large photographic prints. Yes, that includes effects-filled photos of your cats, lunch time meals, and sexy selfies. Since the graphic will wrap all around the shoe, this gives creative types plenty of room to really fashion some detailed designs. No more paying a neighborhood artist dude an overpriced fee to jazz up your kicks — you can do it yourself with nothing but Adidas’ mobile photo print app.

No word yet on how long it will take to get a custom ZX Flux after personalizing it, but if the process is anything like Adidas’ current miAdidas setup, it should take no more than four weeks to join the Shrine Rack up your wall. The app will be available for Android and iOS beginning August.
