Antique-Looking Mayfair Steamer Secretary Trunk Opens Into A Classy Workstation

mayfair1

Want your own home office in a trunk?  Take a gander at the classic-looking Mayfair Steamer Secretary Trunk, an oversized cabinet that opens into a functional workspace.

Designed by furniture maker Timothy Oulton, the reproduction antique piece comes with several drawers, a filing cabinet, multiple shelves, a functional pull-down work desk in front of a tack-on board and bottom space to fit a folding chair into.  They even threw in a hidden wire management system so it looks all neat and tidy.  Seriously, this thing looks more complete than every cubicle I’ve had in any office I’ve worked in.

The Mayfair Steamer stands on wheels, so you can easily open and close the trunk when needed.  Panels are all handmade with distressed vintage cigar and aniline-dyed leather, wrapped over a solid wood frame.  Every part of the trunk is luxurious, with leather-clad corner brackets and handles, 3,000 brass nailheads, oak slats with a tobacco finish and antiqued cast-metal.  Size when closed is 39 x 29 x 76 inches (W x D x H) and the trunk can be locked shut (you’ll need a key) for privacy.

While it wouldn’t exactly qualify as a mobile office, how many workstations will you find that can push into any part of the house, ride in an elevator or lift into a truck?  None, I tell you, none!  Plus, it has that cool antique look that you just can’t buy from Ikea.  Do note that each piece is handmade, so no two trunks will be 100% alike (just in case what you get doesn’t mirror either of the two in the picture).

The classy and functional Mayfair Steamer Secretary Trunk can be had for $3,995.
