Breville makes some of the better countertop ovens out there, delivering a host of smart features that make them both versatile and easy to use. With the Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro, they take both those qualities to the next level by allowing it to work with a companion app, opening up a whole new avenue of functions that weren’t available before.
The outfit’s first app-connected oven, the smart kitchen appliance takes on the same general design as the rest of their Smart Oven line, from the large multi-line, monochrome display and the multiple knobs to the reasonably compact countertop size, all while gaining the ability to pair with the companion app. That way, you get the same tried-and-tested design as their previous ovens, albeit in a form that’s reinforced with all-new connected functions.
The Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro can be controlled right from the front panel using a series of knobs that lets you run through the various options on the vertically-oriented display. As with their other ovens, you can choose from 13 preset smart cooking functions, namely bake, cookies, roast, broil, toast, bagel, warm, reheat, pizza, air fry, proof, dehydrate, and slow cook. It uses the outfit’s Element IQ cooking system, which dynamically manages the cooking temperature inside every section of the cooking chamber using six independent heating elements, ensuring it’s able to deliver the right kind of heat that’s needed for every type of dish you’re making.
For this iteration, of course, it comes with a companion app, where you can choose from over 100 pre-programmed recipes. If you go this route, the app will guide you through every step of the cooking process, complete with an Autopilot option that lets the oven manage the settings all on its own (e.g. it will go from proofing to baking to giving your bread a slight crisp at the end autonomously) – you just follow directions about when to put the food in and when to take it out.
The Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro allows you to check the status of a recipe currently cooking from the companion app, so you can do a quick run to the grocery while the brisket cooks and stay up-to-date on how it’s doing. It’s compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can control the oven using voice commands as well as get voice assistant notifications about what’s happening.
Dimensions are 21.5 x 17.3 x 12.8 inches (width x depth x height), with enough room inside to accommodate a 14-pound turkey, a 9×13-inch baking pan, a 13-inch pizza, a 12-cup muffin tray, and nine slices of bread for making toast. Yes, you can cook a good load of food here in one go. It comes with two wire racks, with eight available rack positions inside, along with a 13-inch pizza pan, a broiling rack, an enamel roasting pan, and an air-frying basket.
