FluidStance Level Adds A Balance Board To Your Standing Desk

Standing desks offered a solution to the growing health risks associated with sitting on your backside all day. If you’re not quite satisfied with the extra activity you’re afforded by simply standing on your feet, though, you might want to add the Level to your workplace ensemble.

Made by FluidStance, it’s a “motion deck” that’s meant to elicit subtle, constant movements when stood on, forcing you to make equally-subtle subconscious adjustments to maintain your balance. Doing so triggers lower leg motion similar to what you’ll expend when walking and raises a person’s heart rate by up to 15 percent compared to sitting on a chair.

The Level is, basically, a balance board that’s tailored for use in offices, rather than circuses and clinics. Designed to facilitate subconscious movements, it requires no conscious effort during use, so you can keep your attention on the actual tasks at hand, rather than worrying about keeping your balance in check. Since it’s for the office, the board is decked in an appropriately professional-looking appearance, with aluminum construction and a laminated wooden finish on top. It measures 26.5 x 12.2 x 2.5 inches (l x w x h).

For personalization, it features interchangeable parts, so you can steal the top deck or floating bumper from the Level in the next cubicle, in case the one in yours is showing wear from taking a bit too much coffee spill over the last few months. And since it’s just a balance board, you can, pretty much, use it anywhere, whether you’re watching TV at home, waiting for the coffee in the pantry, or trying to pick up chicks in the bar (probably a bad idea).

An Indiegogo campaign is currently running for the FluidStance Level. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at $289.
