Green House GH-USD16K Is A 15.6-Inch Monitor Running Off A Single USB Port

A secondary display powering off a USB port is nothing new.  A 15.6-inch LCD monitor doing the same, however, is downright unheard of.  Until now with the Green House GH-USD16K TFT LCD.

Granted, it’s far from the best desktop screen money can buy.  With a 400:1 contrast ratio and a maximum 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, it’s decidedly average for modern displays.  That means you won’t be stunning any friends with its picture quality anytime soon.

The Green House GH-USD16K, however, does something else downright impressive: it only uses a single cable connection, tethered to one USB port on your computer.  Not only does it receive its image through that connection, that’s where it draws power, too — no external power supply necessary.  Really.  And it only requires USB 2.0.

Monitor dimensions are 377.7 × 141.8 × 287.8 mm, with a weight of 1.2 kg.  We’re not sure how big your desk is, but imagine plugging several of these on a single computer — multiple screens galore.

The rub is that Green House will be selling the GH-USD16K in Japan only (at least for the first shipments at the end of the month). Plus, at a time when LCD monitors are dirt-cheap, it’s going for a rather expensive price (around $215).
