Kingston HyperX Predator Is A 1TB USB Thumb Drive

Someday, we’ll be able to cram all the world’s information inside a USB stick, saving you from the hassle of having to chip away at your data plan every time you need to look up something from WebMD or Wikipedia while on the way to a meeting.  Or maybe broadband will be so cheap, so fast and so reliable, storage will be moot.  Or maybe we can have the internet surgically implanted in our brain that we can do search by just winking four times.  Or something.  At any rate, the Kingston HyperX Predator will be so obsolete by then.  For now, though, it’s quite the impressive pocket stuffer. Kinda reminds us of the Victorinox 1 TB drive.

A 1TB USB thumb drive, it literally crams a flash disk full of all the movies and music you could want on the go into a tiny package.  That way, you don’t have to bother carrying multiple 32GB thumb drives around — just one should be enough to get you through most boring 3-day business trips.

The Kingston HyperX Predator is a USB 3.0 drive that can transfer data at speeds of up to 160 mbps.  Other than the massive capacity, it looks like any regular thumb drive (maybe slightly bigger), so it should be just as convenient to bring along as your usual favorite pocketable storage.

Kingston hasn’t announced pricing for the HyperX Predator yet.  Knowing how expensive storage goes before they learn how to mass produce it for cheap, though, this is about as luxury as storage items go.  Remember, 512GB thumb drives still go for close to $2,000, so this will probably sit in the vicinity of 4 grand (or more). Stay tuned for more updates and pics from CES 2013.
