Putting a surround sound setup in your living room sounds nice. Problem is, getting it to sound really good also involves placing speakers in conspicuous (and occasionally awkward) sections of the room. To put it simply, having a bunch of speakers on your walls and floors doesn’t make for the most presentable sight. The Lovesac Sactionals StealthTech Sound + Charge wants to streamline that setup by integrating the speakers right on the couch.
To the unfamiliar, Lovesac is best known for their versatile modular couches, which can be adapted into nearly any configuration of your liking. For this surround-equipped iteration, they embedded the speakers in individual modules meant for placement specifically in the sides and center, allowing you to bring a surround sound experience in the room without the need to mount speakers in every corner of the room.
The Lovesac Sactionals StealthTech Sound + Charge looks like any of the outfit’s modular sofas, which you can stack and line up to build the sectional couch of your dreams. Except, it comes with a number of modules fitted with Harman Kardon speakers under the upholstery, which you’re meant to place at strategic sections of the couch, in order to emulate a traditional surround sound setup. That includes a pair of side modules with embedded Harman Kardon speakers that blast sound through the front and rear, as well as a central seat frame that houses an 8-inch 100W subwoofer and a center channel.
The speakers, by the way, are all optimized based on the fabric type used on each of the modular sections, taking into account their various characteristics to ensure clarity and overall sound quality. According to the outfit, this basic setup will allow you to fill the room with 5.1 surround sound (it supports Dolby ProLogic 2 and Dolby Digital Sound), all while providing a unique proximity to the sound (provided you’re plopped down on the couch) that can’t be replicated using a typical wall-mounted setup.
The Lovesac Sactionals StealthTech Sound + Charge can pair to the audio source using the companion app, where you can also fine tune volume, bass, treble, and speaker balance. It also has a selection of sound modes for customizing the equalization based on whether you’re playing a movie, listening to music, watching the news, or doing something else. In case you’re one of those folks who likes your surround sound really loud, the setup can also be expanded by adding more speakers to the mix. To do this, you can put in up to four additional side modules and even an additional seat module with a subwoofer.
Naturally, the fact that it’s got powered speakers right on the sofa means you’ll need to plug it to a power outlet. The good news is, they’re using that power connection to add a wireless charger right on the side elements, so you can just put your phone down and have it charging while you watch TV. The side sections also comes with a pair of USB slots, by the way, so maybe you can do some wired charging, too, if needed.
