We’ve seen our share of clever light designs, from minimalist to decorative to chuckle-inducing. The Lumio Lamp, however, sets itself as a new favorite with its unique transforming shape, compact folding design, and whole new world of uses.
Designed by Max Gunawan, it boasts a minimalist styling that allows the entire thing to fold into a book-like bundle, making it easy to transport for portable lighting needs. Unfold the book and it opens into an accordion-shaped fixture that you can stretch into a 360-degree lighting solution.
The Lumio Lamp features a laser-cut wooden cover (choice of maple, cherry or walnut), making for a strong protective case and a stable base when setting the lamp down on a flat surface. The paper-like material that stretches when opened is made from Tyvek, so it’s equally as durable and tear-proof. Under that sits a roster of high-performing dimmable LEDs that produce 500 lumens of brightness (around the same output as a 40-watt bulb), ready to lend a soft light to work desks, walkways, stairs, and whatever other applications you find appropriate.
During use at home, you can plug it to a USB port for continuous operation. For on the go function, it comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that can power the LEDs for up to 8 hours on a full charge.
Seriously, this has to be one of the most beautiful portable lighting solutions ever made. The Lumio is available now, priced at $160.
