Induction stoves aren’t new – they’ve been around for a bit. Problem is, the current crop of induction stoves measure about the same size as a traditional stove, making it unsuitable for small homes with similarly small kitchens. The Panasonic Countertop Induction Oven changes that.

Taking on the same dimensions as a microwave, Panasonic’s new oven is small enough to find space for in kitchen counters and shelves, making it a whole lot easier to integrate into already-crowded kitchens. Even better, it does that while providing the same high-speed heating function as induction cooktops, making for one handy oven that can do more than reheat leftovers from the fridge.

A nonstick induction plate at the bottom of the Panasonic Countertop Induction Oven allows you to set down food items for cooking, with an infrared boiler on top providing additional heat to speed up the cooking process. According to the company, that combination allows you to cook chicken breasts in as little as 20 minutes, making for a highly convenient appliance that lets you make family meals in very little time. Even better, that combination supposedly cooks food in a more flavorful way, making them crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

It can be used for grilling, baking, toasting, broiling, and reheating, with preprogrammed settings for specific food items, including meats, vegetables, pizza, fish, toast, and more. Different heating zones allow you to cook both meats and veggies at the same time for the exact same duration without overcooking the latter.

No pricing has been announced, but the Panasonic Countertop Induction Oven will come out in October.
