If you watched KPop Demon Hunters, it’s impossible to not have a soft spot for the mischievous tiger and magpie duo that deliver messages throughout the movie. They’re great comic relief, on top of being pretty cute side characters. As such, it isn’t surprising they’re the first characters to get their own brick-built model with the LEGO KPop Demon Hunters Derpy Tiger and Sussie Bird.
That’s right, the supernatural giant demon cat his six-eyed magpie companion will now be immortalized in LEGO bricks, allowing you to build them and show them off in somewhere in your home. Whether you’re fan of the movie or just someone who has a fascination with weird fictional creatures, this thing should make for a fun LEGO project to take on.
The LEGO KPop Demon Hunters Derpy Tiger and Sussie Bird recreates the two animated characters faithfully enough, so anyone who’s seen the movie should instantly recognize them. Sadly, it’s not life-size, so you won’t get a giant bumbling cat to build. Instead, it’s around the size of a real-life cat, so it should be both relatively easy to assemble and easy to find space for in your display shelves. Because it’s on the smaller side, they use a lot of stickers and printed parts instead of individual bricks for everything, which should simplify the building process quite a bit.
For instance, the details of the eyes, nose, and the spots on Derpy’s body are all printed, along with all sorts of other details. While it would definitely look more stunning if the detailing uses bricks, we’re guessing something like that would be more in line with a bigger, more expensive set. This one, on the other hand, seems to be aimed at the younger fans of the show.
The LEGO KPop Demon Hunters Derpy Tiger and Sussie Bird has the cat showing off his adorable face and beaming smile, with the option to show his tongue sticking out to deliver one of his messages. Derpy’s front legs and tail appear to have some amount of articulation, so can have him strike some simple poses. Sussie Bird, on the other hand, is designed to mount on top of Derpy’s head, where he regularly appears in the movie, although it can also be detached, in case you want to pose them separately. Aside from the two characters, the set includes a pair of love notes for Derpy to deliver and a flowerpot for the cat to knock over (and obsessively try to put back upright). The back of Derpy’s head, by the way, hides a storage compartment that you can use to hide Sussie Bird, your favorite minifigs, or any spare LEGO bricks you have lying around.
The set comes with 825 pieces, so it is pretty big for a LEGO model aimed at kids. Suffice to say, your kids will have to put in quite a bit of time to get this thing assembled. When put together with Sussie standing on Derpy’s head, the model measures 8.5 x 6 x 6 inches (height x width x depth).
