LEGO Star Trek USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D Finally Brings the Other Iconic Sci-Fi Franchise to LEGO

LEGO has a long history with the Star Wars franchise, with the partnership largely credited with helping turn the toy company around during a brief period of financial uncertainty during the late 90s. The partnership was so successful, in fact, that it reshaped LEGO’s strategy going forward, which saw them pursue partnerships with seemingly innumerable pop culture franchises. Through all of this, it always seemed odd that they never developed a licensing deal with the other iconic space franchise. That changes now with the LEGO Star Trek: USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D.

Yes, LEGO is finally bringing Star Trek into the fold, sparking the hope of getting iconic ships like the Voyager, the Borg Cube, the Narada, and more as buildable models down the line. For now, though, we’re getting the Enterprise-D, the fifth Federation vessel that served as the main setting in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The LEGO Star Trek: USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D recreates the Starship Enterprise as it appeared in the TNG series, which ran from 1987 to 1994. The highly detailed replica reproduces the saucer-shaped main hull and the stardrive secondary hull, complete with the ability to separate those two parts from each other, just like in the show, so you can fly each one on their own. The secondary hull is flanked by a pair of warp nacelles (one on each side), both bearing the distinctive red and blue glow detailing as seen on the show.

The main shuttlebay door can be opened and closed, just like on the fictional ship. Even better, it comes with a pair of mini-shuttlepods that can you fly in and out of the shuttlebay to make the whole thing feel more alive. The entire bay, by the way, is designed to be mounted on angled display stand, allowing you to show the ship as if it were in the middle of spaceflight.

The LEGO Star Trek: USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D comes with a lineup of nine LEGO minifigures, each with their own accessories, straight out of the show. There’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his teacup, Commander William Riker and his trombone, and Lieutenant Commander Data with his beloved pet Spot. They also have Lieutenant Worf, the first Klingon to serve in Starfleet, who gets a phaser to brandish during fights, visor-wearing Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge with an engineering case, Dr. Beverely Crusher with her big hair and medical tricorder, her son Wesley Crusher with a portable tractor beam generator, Counsellor Deanna Troi with a Personal Access Display Device (PADD), and bartender Guinan with an interesting-looking bottle filled with a colorful concoction.

The set comes with 3,600 pieces, so you can sink a good amount of time putting this thing together. Do note, it does seem to come with a lot of printed stickers, though, so you do have some stuff that will probably come off over time. The while thing, by the way, measures 23.5 x 18.5 x 10.5 inches (length x width x height), so this will make for a massive first entry to your LEGO Star Trek display shelf.
