Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft XBOX Building Set Lets You Build a 1:1 Replica of the Original XBOX

The original XBOX is one of the most beloved consoles of all time. It’s the console that gave us Halo, after all, allowing it to carve a special place in many gamers’ hearts. If you’ve been waiting for a buildable LEGO XBOX for a while and have been disheartened by the lack of progress on that end, it turns out that’s because someone else owns the license for it. Turns out, those folks are making good on that license with the Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft XBOX Building Set.

That’s right, there’s a new brick-building set that lets you put together a model replica of the retro console, allowing you to relive the days of sinking hours on Halo multiplayer with your friends. Sure, you can’t actually play any games on the darn thing, but we have a feeling this will bring back memories of all the good times you had way back when.

The Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft XBOX Building Set gives you a highly-detailed 1:1 replica of the vintage console that you can put together using LEGO-style construction bricks. The model recreates the console faithfully, from the X shaped top panel and the green XBOX logo in the middle of it to the grooved recessed grilles on the sides and the quartet of connector ports out front. Yeah, it mostly looks like the real thing, albeit with some dead giveaways that are difficult to avoid when using blocky construction bricks.

It also comes with a buildable life-size replica of the Duke, the XBOX’s iconic controller that came with the original console. The gamepad comes wired and plugs into the first controller port on the console, so it feels like you’re getting on to play with the real thing. The controls do look like you can interact with them, too, so you can press the buttons and D-pad, then move the analog sticks around for a little realism.

The Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft XBOX Building Set’s housing can actually open up to reveal three different sets of dioramas. You get one for Halo, which is easily the XBOX’s biggest and most influential game, as well as one for Psychonauts and another for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The dioramas come with light and sound effects, by the way, which you can trigger by pressing specific buttons on the connected controller. There’s one light and sound sequence for each of the games, as well as a secret one that, we’re hoping, plays out the original XBOX system sounds.

All of the dioramas are removable, by the way, so you can show them off on their own while displaying the XBOX model somewhere else. The dioramas come with one-inch figures of the characters from the games, including one of Master Chief, which is guaranteed to be a fan favorite. A total of 3,509 pieces come with the set, so this should make for quite the engaging build. Sure, it’s far from the complexity of LEGO’s 10,000-piece sets, but it should keep you busy for a bit more than a couple of hours.

The Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft XBOX Building Set is available now, priced at $324.
