Problem is, carrying just one knife when fishing forces you to use it in situations where it might not be ideal, making it lose edge a lot faster, so you tend to carry a few and it can get a bit hard to manage. A fillet knife with an interchangeable blade system, it effectively lets you carry multiple knives while taking up minimum space. That’s right, multiple blades all designed to swap in and out of a single handle. Does it really save that much space compared to just carrying multiple knives? We don’t know, but we imagine the fair bit of room you save is enough to make it worthwhile, given how many other gear you pile onto the fishing kayak whenever you hit your favorite angling spots.
The Bubba Multi-Flex Interchangeable Blade Set consists of a handle and four different full-tang blades, namely a seven-inch tapered flex, an eight-inch ultra-flex, a nine-inch stiff, and a nine-inch serrated flex, all of which can be easily slotted into the handle for use in your fishing activities. Equipped with all four blades, you can easily switch to the best one for the job, from relying on the seven-incher for turning all the little fish you catch into tender fillets and using the stiff nine-incher to cut through that big dorado you just caught to pulling out the serrated edge to saw through those tough rib bones you encounter along the way.
The included handle integrates the outfit’s iconic red non-slip handle, so you can use this in the wettest conditions without losing your grip, while a squeeze-and-slide mechanism allows you to swap blades with utmost ease. A special locking mechanism ensures the blades stay as securely in the handle as any conventional knife, so you can cut through any fish, from the meat and scales to the tough bones, without disengaging the blade.
The Bubba Multi-Flex Interchangeable Blade Set contains blades cut in high-carbon stainless steel, complete with a titanium nitride coating for corrosion resistance, so this thing should last you until you, pretty much, get tired of using the darn things. The six-inch long handle, on the other hand, gets a groove for your trigger finger, safety guards at the tip, and a small lanyard hole at the rear corner.
The whole thing comes with an EVA carrying case that houses a tray in the main compartment, with designated slots for each blade bundled in the set and a magnetic insert to keep the blades in place. The tray is removable, so you can easily take it out for cleaning (and yes, you will want to clean it), while the interior of the case is made from a puncture resistant lining, so the darn thing doesn’t get damaged after a few uses.
