Floppytable Brings Retro Storage To Your Living Room

You had serious hots for that NES Controller Coffee Table.  Unfortunately, the fancy gaming-inspired furniture piece didn’t quite fit into your budget, which is why you still have the same cocktail table you traded for an old game console from a dude on Craigslist.  Well, here’s another retro tech-themed coffee table you probably can’t afford: the Floppytable.

Created by Berlin design firm Neulant van Exel, the living room piece comes with a top styled to look like a 3.5-inch floppy disk.  Yep, those storage media of olden days, back when people ran DOS as their operating systems, used continuous feeds for printouts and typed their resumes in Wordstar 3.0.

Unlike real floppies, the Floppytable is made from hot-rolled steel and stainless steel, so it should be a lot more durable than the plastic storage units of old.  It takes on accurate details and proportions as vintage 3.5-inch floppies, except with bigger dimensions at 28 x 18 x 26 inches (w x d x h).  Like your coffee tables with integrated storage areas?  Not a problem.  Just slide the metal shutter (the one that exposes the actual media inside in the original floppy disks) to expose a built-in container slot for small items like remotes, coasters or cellphones.

The awesome part: the Floppy Disk Table is actually available for sale.  The not so awesome part: it’s probably not a fit for your budget, either.  You can order it from the official website, with a special Christmas pricing of €720.
