Would Women Prefer Complex Technical Watches As A Style Option? Urwerk UR-106 Is Betting On It

Technical watches with complex mechanical movements have always tended to look like they came straight out of a science fiction movie, which naturally made them more attractive to men than to women. Urwerk is hoping that won’t be the case with the new UR-106, a technical timepiece that designed from the ground-up to be worn on a lady’s wrist.

That’s right, the guys behind the UR-110 and the UR-CC1 King Cobra just made a watch for the ladies. And, yeah, it still looks like an URWERK with that signature complicated appearance, but a lot more “elegant, slender, and graceful” than anything the outfit has built before.

The Urwerk UR-106 embraces the company’s core case and dial concepts, but on a smaller size that happens to be fitted with an inordinate amount of diamonds. Thankfully, it’s not just a smaller version of any of the company’s previous creations, sporting an entirely new case, movement, and dial, even though it uses the brand’s signature satellite hour time indication. In the UR-106, three satellites, with four hour numerals each, sweep along the linear minute scale in order to tell the time, with no indicator for the seconds (probably a necessary omission so they can make the case smaller). It also comes with a moon phase indicator.

The automatic UR 6.01 movement is housed inside a titanium and steel case that measures 35 x 49.4 x 14.45 mm (w x h x d), which may not be small, but is relatively tiny for the brand. Features include sapphire crystal glass, 3ATM water resistance, 52 jewels in the movement, and a power reserve of 48 hours.

Two models of the Urwerk UR-106 will be made – Lotus and Black Lotus. Only 11 of each will be produced, though, priced at CHF 85,000 apiece.
