Porsche’s New Plug-In Hybrid Will Still Leave Your Car In The Dust

Plug-in hybrids may be all about balancing practical use with environmental responsibility. We doubt, however, that’s much of a concern for anyone picking up the 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. As the most powerful entry in the Panamera line, this thing is designed to satisfy the need for speed.

Combining four-liter V8 with an electric motor, the car produces a total 680 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque. That powertrain combination is enough to send it blasting from standstill to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, all while hitting top speeds of 192 mph. Simply put, this hybrid runs like a bad ass sports car.

The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid’s electric motor is powered by a 14.1 kWh liquid-cooled battery, which can keep it running for 31 miles strictly on electricity. That same battery takes 12 hours to go from drained to fully-charged using a 10-amp plug, so you can plug in at night and have the car topped up come morning, but you can significantly cut it down to under three hours with a 240-volt, 40-amp socket.

Inside, it gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Porsche’s Communication Management system.
