Muvi Micro Camcorder Thinks Your Flip Is Too Big
Pocket camcorders are great. But those Minos and Ultras are sooo two years ago. Smaller is always better and the Muvi Micro Camcorder outsizes them for the victory.
Sure, that old thing fits in your pocket. This 50-gram gadget, on the other hand, can slip into your pocket even with a cellphone inside it. You think the Flip is simple? With only one button available (for recording), this makes reading a book sound complicated.
Measuring 5.5 x 2 x 2 cm, the Muvi Micro is the world’s smallest camcorder. It captures 640 x 480 videos with a wide-angle 72-degree field view at 30fps, allowing you to record AVI-format movies comparable to bigger pocket shooters. A 2GB microSD card comes docked onto the device, good for one hour of footage. If you need more space, simply replace it with up to 8GB-sized cards for saving lengthy performances. Do note that the rechargeable battery [...]
Instant Print Lives With The Polaroid PIC-1000 Camera
Loved Polaroid? You’re not alone. A good amount of people mourned the day the company put an end to their “instant picture” products. Lucky for you, the company has ditched attempting to cope with the digital age and go back to their roots.
Yes, they will be releasing a new range of film cameras that resemble the beloved Polaroids of yesteryear. First to bat will be the PIC-1000, a stylish camera that will be using the classic Polaroid Color 600 Instant film for producing those iconic, white border prints.
The new PIC-1000 will sport a plastic construction, with at least one model clad with some 70s-throwback woodgrain panels. They’ll work much like the classic cameras did, providing on-the-spot prints of shots you take. Each one will feature a self-timer, flash and red-eye reduction.
According to Polaroid, the film (which will be available in packs of 10 shots) can be used in both new [...]
DORYU 2-16 Pistol Camera Captures Criminals On Film
Sometimes, old gadgets are even more awesome than new ones. That’s certainly true with the DORYU 2-16 Pistol Camera, a police-issue camera gun originally fashioned way back in 1952. Take that James Bond.
Why a camera gun? Barring any Japanese society historians from the post-war around me, I guess it’s so that the police can draw it from their holsters, right at the same time they pull out a pistol. The preserved piece belongs to one Ryu Koakimoto-san (pictured below), who claims it was an actual equipment policemen carried during the era.
According to Ryu, the pistol-shaped image capture device was used to photograph criminals in the act, as well as to record the faces of protestors (who will likely need to be arrested later). The 16mm camera is equipped with a built-in flash system, a bullet clip that holds five magnesium cartridges and a C-mount (like the one used in 16mm [...]
Samsung CL65 Digicam Bundles Wi-Fi, GPS, DLNA, Kitchen Sink
Samsung seems bent on declaring itself the official eccentric digicam-maker of the world. Yesterday, we bear witness to the company’s clever dual-LCD compact shooter. This time, it throws all-in-one features into the regular camera chassis, decking the Samsung CL65 with every type of connectivity option you can imagine, short of turning it into a veritable cell phone.
Veering away from the physical buttons most digicams come with, the CL65 sports a large 3.5-inch touchscreen around the back, where all the features can be managed by using virtual controls. It uses Samsung’s new Smart Gesture User Interface, which claims to turn common camera functions into easy-to-perform tasks.
Camera details include a 12 megapixel sensor, 5x zoom lens (it uses a narrow panel, though), dual image stabilization and 720p camcorder recordings at 30 fps. Extra features include Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, DLNA support, HD video display directly from the screen and, even, an onboard GPS. [...]
Samsung Dual-Screen Digicams Let You Take Perfect Self-Portraits
Like to take self-portraits on your digicam? You probably know all too well about how disastrous those types of photos usually end up, with good shots often a function of sheer luck than anything else. Save yourself the hassle and arm yourself with Samsung’s new dual-screen point-and-shoots, which fit in a second display right next to the lens.
Billed as the Samsung ST500 and the Samsung ST550, both models are virtually identical, with only screen size separating one from the other. While both cameras tout similar one-inch touch-capable LCDs on the front panel, they feature 3- and 3.5-inch touchscreen displays with haptic feedback around the rear, respectively.
Details of both compacts include 12 megapixel sensors, 4.6x optical zoom (wide angle 27mm Schneider Kreuznach lens), dual image stabilization (both mechanical and digital) and an HDMI out. Like all good point-and-shoots, it comes with a 720p-capable camcorder feature that manages to grab videos at [...]
Nikon Coolpix S1000pj Comes With Built-In Projector For Instant Slide-Shows
Micro-projectors have recently begun finding their way on cell phones. It makes a whole lot of sense, considering we’ve got phone apps for Powerpoint presentations and games, two categories that can really benefit from being set on a much-larger display. Nikon is, of course, betting that people will take to showing off their photos in much the same way and are outfitting the new Coolpix S1000pj with a built-in pico projector to test the waters.
The feature solves a common problem when viewing photos on a digital camera, which is all but impossible for more than two people at a time, given the 3-inch or smaller panels you find decked across most point-and-shoots. While many compact cameras now come with video out to allow streaming on a TV, a projector makes it much easier, requiring nothing more than a blank wall to begin showing off slides.
The integrated LCOS [...]
Avatar Digital Binocular Sports and Spy Camera: 2MP, 21X Zoom And Insanely Affordable
Amateur spies, wannabe paparazzi and 13-year old voyeurs, rejoice! If you’ve ever wanted to photograph scenes that take place way, way, way out of a regular cheap-ass camera’s zoom range but couldn’t afford the hardware, your prayers have been answered. The Avatar Digital Binocular Sports and Spy Camera is probably more affordable than your existing point-and-shoot, yet it can manage to capture stills from sweeping distances.
While I wouldn’t put too much faith in anything out of China, this piece from Avatar appears talented enough (not to mention that it looks pretty bad ass) to warrant the risk. Capable of providing up to 21x optical zoom, it should let you capture scenes and images, all while staying as far from the action as possible.
In all honesty, the thing looks like an MP3 player with a nominal camera module, fitted with a powerful telescopic lens. A quick [...]
